Truck Dispatcher — Open Deck (Flatbed/Step-Deck)

About the role
We’re a fast-growing carrier looking for an experienced Open Deck Truck Dispatcher to keep our flatbed and step-deck fleet moving safely, profitably, and on time.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, and dispatch open-deck loads with optimal routing.

• Coordinate daily with drivers, brokers, and customers.

• Track shipments and ensure on-time pickups/deliveries.

• Negotiate rates and secure profitable freight on DAT, Truckstop, and direct boards.

• Verify load details (dimensions, weight, center of gravity, tarp/chain/strap requirements).

• Arrange OS/OW permits, escorts, and route surveys when required.

• Troubleshoot service issues in real time (weather, road closures, mechanical, appointments).

• Maintain accurate records: BOLs/RCs, rate cons, PODs, accessorials, and driver HOS/ELD compliance.

• Monitor axle/bridge laws and state-specific open-deck rules to prevent citations and delays.

Requirements

• 1–2+ years as a semi-truck dispatcher; open-deck (flatbed/step-deck) experience required.

• Strong command of load boards (DAT, Truckstop, etc.) and common TMS/ELD tools.

• Working knowledge of securement (chains/straps, coil racks, edge protectors, tarping) and OS/OW permitting.

• Solid understanding of HOS, FMCSA rules, axle weights, and bridge laws.

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to prioritize under pressure and manage multiple trucks/loads at once.

Nice to Have

• Experience with commodities like steel, machinery, lumber, building materials, and oversized equipment.

• Familiarity with route planning for height/weight restrictions and construction zones.

• Basic cost-to-run and margin analysis.
